つげの実

 柘植の実や　

赤に負けても　

なんのその

柘植（つげ）といえば、櫛、印鑑、将棋の駒。成長が遅いうえに黒い実をつける。垣根にあっても注目を浴びない。

目立たず、静けさを誘う。

だから、写真に撮ろうなどと思ったことがない。

私は晩秋の青空に映える赤い南天に見とれていたが、柘植の実に気が付いて、この実に少しこだわって撮った。

Boxwood berries—

Though they pale beside red,

So what?

Boxwood—think combs, seals, shogi pieces.

Slow-growing, bearing black berries.

Even in hedges, it draws no attention.

Unobtrusive, inviting stillness.

So I never thought to photograph it.

I was captivated by the red nandina berries against the late autumn blue sky, but I noticed the boxwood berries and decided to focus on them a little while taking this photo.
